Alzheimer's Program

Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease can be extremely demanding and stressful. Caregivers themselves may even suffer from chronic or debilitating conditions.

CAAC supports caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias by providing funding for respite services to offer caregivers temporary relief from the stress and strain of their daily routines. Respite services may be provided in the home or in an adult day care facility. Limited funding is also available for incontinent and other medical supplies and for personal emergency response systems.

CAAC also provides support to the local Alzheimer’s organization which:

  • sponsors support groups for caregivers of dementia patients
  • distributes a quarterly newsletter with helpful information for caregivers
  • provides counseling to caregivers and other loved ones
  • presents training for caregivers and professionals who work with dementia patients
  • provides educational and informational materials
  • works with local law enforcement agencies on Project Lifesaver, which provides identification bracelets and/or tracking devices for persons with dementia

For more information on any of these services, contact CAAC at 334-240-4666 or 800-264-4680.
